A New Home For The Singing Hive

Having worked as a singing teacher and professional singer for nearly twenty years, my dream has been to say farewell to the nomadic lifestyle, carrying a huge suitcase of song books and teaching tools to schools, university and my singers’ homes and to set up my singing teaching studio in its own premises. I wanted to build a ‘hive’ to provide vocal coaching in Manchester and online for busy singers.

When Sarah and Helen, the mother-daughter duo who own and run Little Box Gym in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, just outside Manchester City Centre asked me earlier this year if I’d like to set up my business in one of their rooms upstairs, I jumped at the opportunity.  Chorlton is known for its vibrant, arty community of indy businesses, so I thought The Singing Hive would fit right in.

With the help of some willing family members, I moved in on 1st September 2023.

A view of the inside of The Singing Hive teaching room, featuring a well-organized space with a keyboard and stool, a music stand, and a desk. The shelves above are adorned with fairy lights, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. A cozy rug covers the floor, and a yellow chair with a wool throw provides a comfortable seating option. The studio is thoughtfully arranged, providing a conducive environment for musical learning and creativity

Finding Your Voice

The most important thing in a voice teaching studio is for you to feel comfortable, welcome and at ease in your learning space, so I’ve gone about creating just that. One of my singers said I needed some fairy lights, so fairy lights we have! I love plants, so we have plants. There is also a big window to let in the natural light – great in the Manchester winter.

I am so happy to have all my singing teaching equipment, piano and creature comforts all in one place. When you come for a singing lesson, you can help yourself to water, buy a coffee at reception, use music from The Singing Hive’s collection and you can play backing tracks on the bluetooth speaker. All you need to do is hang your coat up and enjoy your singing lesson!

A Warm Welcome

When you come for singing lessons, you will get a warm welcome from the staff at Little Box Gym. You’ll often see Sarah, Helen, Jazz or Zoe on reception. They go out of their way to learn the names of members of The Singing Hive and make you feel welcome.

As well as The Singing Hive, Pippa the Physiotherapist (the other Pippa) and Lizi the Beauty Therapist run their business here.  It’s a one-stop shop.

Where is The Singing Hive?

For in-person vocal coaching in Manchester, you can easily get to The Singing Hive by tram, road or on foot. It’s a three minute walk from St Werburgh’s Road Tram stop (East Didsbury or Airport Line), about 15 minutes from Manchester City Centre and within minutes of the M60. Parking is available either in the carpark or on nearby residential roads.

Prefer to have online singing lessons? No problem!

If you would like to come and develop your singing in The Singing Hive’s new headquarters, send an email pippa@singinghive.co.uk and let’s get you started.
